A World Premiere Performance at Wolf Trap
Next Tuesday (July 18, 8:30 pm), two prominent dance companies –- Ronald K. Brown / Evidence and Philadanco –- are joining together on the stage of Wolf Trap's Filene Center for an evening of exhilarating and spiritual dancing. The first part of the program will showcase a dance from each company’s repertoire. The evening will culminate in the world premiere of For Truth, a dance created for both companies by Evidence’s founder and artistic director, Ronald K. Brown, who is widely regarded as one of the major American modern dance makers.
Brown’s choreography is an amalgam of ballet, hip-hop, African, and modern dance movements. His dances are emotionally expressive and charged with high energy and spiritual urgency. This year, his New York-based company, Evidence, is celebrating their 20th anniversary. Philadanco, the Philadelphia Dance Company, was founded in 1980 by Joan Myers Brown. This is a collective of “highly skilled dancers” with “unparalleled energy and superior technical ability.” The company’s repertoire reflects spiritual values and African cultural traditions. To learn something about this performance, arrive at Wolf Trap an hour before the performance for a free pre-performance preview (July 18, 7:30 pm) on the Old Farmhouse Lawn.
