An intriguing album of, well, #classicalmusic and #postclassical music with jazz and ‘clever pop’/rock influences. W/music by #JonathanRussell, #ZackBrowning, #RichardBelcastro, #RustyBanks & #RandallWool - and a classic.

The odd one out is that classic: #Rzewski’s “Coming Together”, the narrative style of which has aged badly (if it was ever good) and which is further undone by the child-whispering narration style that comes across as pretentious and gratuitously artsy. (Mos Def did it better.) The Vietnam-War message of the album, if ever intended, becomes lost to all but those that want to find it in the first place. It is aparently a law of the universe that Sociopolitical music is always either musically or socio-politically irrelevant - often both but never neither.
