In Brief: Dog Days Edition

Here is your regular Sunday selection of links to good things in Blogville and Beyond.
  • On the Feast of the Assumption (that's August 15, for you non-Catholics) in 1909, the Cathedral of the Madeleine was dedicated in Salt Lake City. This mother church built for the Catholics of mostly Mormon Utah (with the help of the Mormon Church, too) is an architectural delight and has one of the most highly respected music programs of American cathedrals, not least for its music school, modeled on European cathedral chorister schools. [Whispers in the Loggia]

  • The Seattle Ring finally prompted critic Joshua Kosman to dust off the cobwebs from his blog and post something. We hope to cover the Seattle festival on our summer opera travels one of these summers. [On a Pacific Aisle]

  • Jens Laurson makes a case for accepting left-handed people rather than treating them as inverts -- a look at the composers who wrote with their m.s. [WETA FM 90.9 Blog]

  • Andrew Lindemann Malone, a one-time stringer for the Washington Post and someone who has been very kind to Ionarts, has started a blog. Go check it out! [DMV Classical]

  • Sadly, I missed the chance to meet the elusive blogger "Brian" at Santa Fe Opera, but you can read his thoughts on the company's season from when he was there, in the week after press week. [Out West Arts]
