The moral of the story is, when the roads are icy, skip the early morning drive to the bike trail. Get some studio work done, or roll over, go back to sleep.
From the look of things it would seem the grill ornament may be the only thing on the front end made of metal. I think that little, fully intact 'H' saved your life.
