Washington National Opera

We don't have public radio in Washington anymore, so my loyalty goes to Baltimore's WBJC. All the more now, because they broadcast NPR's World of Opera program on Saturdays at 1:30 pm. This fall, that excellent program, which rebroadcasts live opera performances from around the world, is devoting several weeks to operas from last year's season at Washington National Opera. It began this past Saturday, September 3, with Il Trovatore, which was probably not worth listening to again. Here is the rest of the schedule, with links to the corresponding Ionarts reviews:
September 10 -- Britten, Billy Budd
September 17 -- Giordano, Andrea Chénier
September 24 -- Federico Moreno Torroba, Luisa Fernanda
October 1 -- Puccini, Tosca
October 8 -- Tchaikovsky, The Maid of Orleans
October 15 -- Saint-Saëns, Samson et Dalila
Tomorrow's Billy Budd is not to be missed. I think it was the high point of last year's season.
