Fall Music Preview, Paris

Having recently made some picks for opera and concerts in Washington, I was interested to see what Le Monde would select as the best things to hear in Paris this fall. Here were some of the things they picked (Les rendez-vous de la rentrée culturelle, September 8):
  • Concerts sponsored by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, devoted this year to the music of Jean-Marie Leclair (in September and October), and on November 28, a concert of motets by Henry Du Mont, in the Chapelle royale at Versailles
  • Valery Gergiev will bring his Mariinski troupe from St. Petersburg for two months to take up residence at the Théâtre du Châtelet, performing ballets and operas
  • How many Ring cycles can one continent have? How about 1) Pierre Audi's production in Amsterdam, 2) Denis Krief's in Karlsruhe, 3) Robert Wilson's in Paris at the Théâtre du Châtelet, directed by Christoph Eschenbach with the Orchestre de Paris?
  • Olivier Py directs Tannhaüser at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, from September 23 to October 11, with Nina Stemme as Elisabeth and Dietrich Henschel as Wolfram
  • Off the beaten path, Angers-Nantes Opéra will produce Emmanuel Chabrier's lesser-known comic opera L'Etoile, directed by Emmanuelle Bastet
It all sounds great. Ionarts will live vicariously through the reviews of French critics, which you know we will share with you.
