Creeping Thoughts

Whenever there is an event of great magnitude, be it a hurricane, 9/11, or the current tsunami, I eventually get around to thinking of how it will affect the art-making process. I'm not even thinking of the grand response, like Guernica or The Third Of May, or the countless memorials that will surely follow, but how events creep into our thoughts and have a permanent effect on us in every way, from here on.

I've always had a fear of the ocean, of what I can't see, riptides, creatures. This past week the ocean, the waves, have been working their way into everything I draw.
