Culture.fr

The French Ministry of Culture and Communication sponsors some regular celebrations in the fall that I'll try to follow as they happen:

• September 18 to 19 (this weekend): the Journées européennes du Patrimoine (European Patrimony Days); see my post on this annual event last year
  
• October 15 to 17: Lire en fête (Reading festival)
  
• October 14 to 17: Vivre les Villes (Discovery of urban architecture)

The Ministry also runs a Web site called culture.fr: le portail de la culture, which has lots of great stuff. I have recently been spending some time looking through some of these resources, which you might want to see for yourself:

• a set of images of old French vacation postcards

• a range of pages on archeology
  
• Visites virtuelles (some virtual tours of French monuments)

Incredibly, given French laws about using French on the Internet, you can view the Web site in English.
