Ozawa is...Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Ozawa is indeed not known as a Mahlerian conductor, but this 8th is ravishing. I've had his Mahler 1 with the BSO for years, and enjoyed it. Phillips did a stellar job of recording this 8th, which is notoriously hard to capture on record. It was recorded in Boston Symphony Hall with the Tanglewood Chorus. This outstanding group of singers continue to serve as the chorus in performances and recordings issued by the BSO.
