Harold Shonberg used to say Josef Hofmann's best years were from 1924-1934 -- precisely when we have no recordings! But check out Kempff's incomplete pre-war Beethoven on Dante and perhaps elsewhere. It's less pointillist than the '50s set, more lyrical and flowing. Thanks for the blog.
